The hurricane season is not over yet. Until November 15, there is still a significant risk of potentially dangerous cyclones forming. Now, a tropical depression threatens to devastate Costa Rica, Honduras and Nicaragua, countries that have already activated the red alert due to heavy rains.
This system, formed yesterday Wednesday, has already caused damage and taken the life of a person.
Damage from tropical depression
Nicaragua
Tropical depression is a phenomenon that can cause significant damage. In Managua, yesterday they had to evacuate about 800 indigenous people who live in the Misquitos Cays due to the high risk of rain and storm surges, which threaten the communities of the Caribbean coast and islands. In fact, Tuesday a downpour left one dead in Nicaragua: a 29-year-old man driving a pickup truck, which was swept away by the current of a river in the eastern department of Chontales.
Three health officials disappeared on Wednesday. They were also traveling in a truck, which fell into a river when crossing a bridge in the city of Juigalpa, in Chontales.
Costa Rica
So far, there has been no damage, but the National Emergency Commission (CNE) of Costa Rica declared a red alert on Wednesday in most of the territory, including the Pacific coast and the center of the country. While the depression is unlikely to directly impact the region, it does could cause an increase in the swell on the Pacific coast, in addition to intensifying the rains.
Honduras
Honduras, like Costa Rica, has not suffered any damage either, but remains vigilant. On Thursday it is expected to approach the Nicaraguan coast and then pass over eastern Honduras, to return to the Caribbean in its northwestern part on Friday.
In Honduras will generate cloudiness and rain, especially in the north of the country. They are expected to intensify further on Friday.
